New Releases from the National Declassification Center

The NDC has released a listing of 240 entries that have completed declassification processing between June 30 and October 10, 2014 and are now available for researcher request. This release consists of records from both military and civilian agencies.

Highlights include:

  • Department of the Treasury, Executive Secretariat Files,
  • Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (ACDA), Office of Public Affairs, Subject Files
  • United States Marine Corps, Third Marine Division, Command Chronologies, 1965 – 1969,
  • National Advisory Committee on Aeronautics (NACA), Numerical File of Documents,
  • United States Air Force, Assistant Chief Of Staff, Intelligence, Intelligence Report Files,
  • United States Agency for International Development, Country and Subject Files, and
  • Atomic Energy Commission, Washington Liaison Office, Official Correspondence

Requests to access the newly released records or to order copies should be directed to Archives 2 Reference at 301-837-3510 or archives2reference@nara.gov.

  1. Thanks, but I don’t see any link on this page and all I can find is an Excel spreadsheet, not a pdf of the documents themselves.

      Now I understand. The listing is for the release of 240 record entries (or series) not 240 documents. These are all born paper records and NARA has not digitized them. The listing represents approximately 9,300,000 pages of records from the 240 series and totals 3721 cubic feet of paper records. To look at the records from a particular entry, you would contact Archives II Reference.

  2. Back to my original question, slightly modified: why aren’t all 9,300,000 pages digitized, along with all other holdings? Sure, it’s a lot, but I bet Google could do it.

      A fair question and digitizing all of NARA’s 12 billion pages of paper records is part of the agency’s long term strategy. This will take time and money to accomplish. For more information on this goal, please see our Open Government Plan.
