  1. As a citizen who has participated in good faith in your public comment process, it is disappointing to see that the Plan contains no effort to speed up declassification of the most requested classified documents in your collection- those related to the assassination of President Kennedy. Pages 42-43 of the Plan show that this topic was the most frequently requested topic for declassification in your public input process, however your response is merely a restatement of the status quo. There has been no attempt to speed up declassification of these records as occurred previously in 2005-2006.

  2. Thank you for soliciting our input on NARA’s draft 2014 – 2016 Open Government Plan in your March 2014 blog post. It appears that the plan has been finalized.

I would find it most helpful if blog author Don, dmcilwain per his URL, could list which requests for inclusion in the plan were acted upon (as blog comments and otherwise). That would reinforce the perception of “responsive government”.

Also, would it be possible for NARA to indicate the year in which the unfulfilled requests can be released through NDC? It doesn’t need to be all of them, only those documents that were requested multiple times, e.g. as mentioned in Dan Alcorn’s 12 June comment, as well as non-JFK related material.

    1. Ms. Kesselman,

Thank you for your comment. I encourage people to read theupdated plan which can be found here.
Appendix A provides a summary of comments received including a discussion of JFK records. Additionally, we received declassification-specific comments regarding Vietnam era records (from Record Groups 472 and 319) and selected files from the Department of State (from Record Group 59). Many of these files are currently in process and when through the declassification pipeline will be listed on the NDC Blog.

      Don
